Currently our society creates a great deal of waste and much of that waste is comprised of plastic. According to the Environmental Protection Agency in 2010 alone 31 million tons of plastic waste was created. This waste ends up all over the globe in both land and water, a good example is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Environmental awareness is to understand the fragility of our environment and the importance of its protection. Promoting environmental awareness is an easy way to become an environmental steward and participate in creating a brighter future (Pachamama, 2017). Our objectives for the whole project are: – Raising the awareness for more environment- and ocean protection – Helping to reduce the garbage at the river and beaches in and around Porto – Being part of an environmental- and community project – Create more awareness and sensibilization – Being activist! – Creating an final event with all participates – Building a garbage-objective with the collected trash – Finding newspapers or other ways to raise awareness to publish the event – Doing an exhibitions with the whole project (garbage-objectives & documentary part) The whole project has to be split up in 3 different project parts for having a good overview about the single steps we will pass during the project period. 1. Communication and cooperationThe whole project period starts in April 2017 and will finish with the final art exhibition in the middle of June 2017. The following organizations, associations and other participations are supporting the project in different ways. For example spreading the event trough social media canals or helping with materials etc. – AMO Porto Association – Surfer Foundation – EVS – Exchange Erasmus Student Network – Porto Surf School 2. Project detailsThe whole project is split in 3 different parts. The first part is the “collecting trash part”, the second part the “art installation from the trash” and the last part, the “documentary part”. 1. Part – Collecting trashFor the trash collecting’s we are planning 3 different “collecting-session” in 3 different spots. The dates and spots are: First session 22. April 2017 Meeting at 09.30 am in Reserva Natural Local do Estuário do Douro (41.142829, -8.661570) Second session – around the 06. Mai 2017 in Rio Ferreira (41.177821, -8.468488) (Exact addresses and meeting point will be added asap) Third session – middle of Mai 2017 in Rio Tinto (Exact addresses and meeting point will be added asap) 2. Part – Art installation from trashAfter each collecting sessions, we will create with all participants a final art installation. Thus, we will have in the end 3 different art pieces out of trash which we want to present here in Porto to raise more awareness for that topic. The date for the creativity part will be always one week after the collecting session (asap we will give final fixed dates). The idea is here to involve everybody who wants to participate in a “community art work”. For each art piece we have a rough plan, but it will be still a work-in-process event (the idea for the installations is to create 3 different pieces regarded to the specific trash and the place where we found it). 3. Part – Documentary partWhile we are doing the collecting- and art installation’s with and without the trash, we will have somebody who will film and photographs during the different sessions to make a short documentary film for the final art exhibition. Also we will interview people who can tell us more about the pollution in those 3 areas and furthermore giving us information’s about the different reasons for that. Additional to that, we will create a slide show from the photos which we will also present during the exhibition. The final place for the exhibition is not found yet. We would prefer to find public places in central Porto to show the art installations, for example 3 different Metro Stations. Here is a short list of Casa da Horta appearances in the press.
